Spring Carpet Cleaning St. Louis

St. Louis Spring Carpet CleaningWith all the extreme weather we have been having in St. Louis this winter, spring cleaning will be more important than a usual year. One reason why it is more important to get your carpets cleaned this spring is the salt that was most likely brought in due to all the snow we received in St. Louis. Another is due to the very low temperatures we experienced, when it is extremely cold in St. Louis our furnaces run much more then when it is slightly cold out.

When your furnace runs most of the winter the indoor humidity is much lower than normal. I noticed much lower humidity in my home and office than I have ever seen. Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air and the lower the humidity the more dry our skin is. Most of the dust in our homes comes from body dander and the more dry the air is the more dust we will accumulate. The static electricity you most likely have experienced this winter is due to the extremely dry air. These two reasons alone make spring carpet cleaning a must this year. The salt will damage your carpet since it is very coarse and hard to remove with a normal vacuuming. Not to mention all the other chemicals being used on the streets to keep them clear all winter.

How to clean up after winter.

With a thorough professional carpet cleaning we will remove the salt, ice melting chemicals, body dander, and anything that your dog may have drug in over winter. This will help with your indoor air quality and remove any odors that may have built up over the winter months. It will also extend the life of your carpet since we are removing contaminants and the abrasive soils and salts which if left in the carpet causes the carpet to get worn in the traffic areas.

We always deep clean every carpet we clean so we will be sure to get everything out that we can. If you have a smaller animal that was not able to get outside due to the heavy snow you may have some pet spots that will need to be addressed. Don’t worry about this too much most smaller dogs can’t and don’t want to go outside when there is a foot of snow.

The pet spots may not smell bad now. But when the weather warms up for a week or so and you furnace isn’t running all the time. Then the humidity will raise to a more normal level. After that you will be able to smell the pet urine pretty easily. Especially on a rainy day when its above 55 degrees. For pet spots we will need to perform an additional step. This will allow us to remove as much of the urine as possible. Which will help remove any odors that may have worked their way under the carpet.

If I can’t clean my carpet now what can I do to help?

If you’re not in the market for a carpet cleaning at this time, the best thing you can do it to vacuum your carpet slowly with a high quality hepa filtered vacuum. The Carpet and Rug Institute recommends to vacuum 1 ft per second. If you vacuum faster than that you will not remove nearly as much as if you slow down a little and give it time to extract the soils. Remember that sometimes its hard to see how dirty the carpet truly is till we start the cleaning process but once we start our rinsing of the carpet you can see a distinct clean / dirty line that assures you it was time to clean.
